East: OUTRHGDSGD the old yeller analogy that runs through this one shot absolutely kills me - I'm such a sucker for these types of metaphors. It uses quotes from the book to set the stage the the different sections and it drives me crazy in the best ways.

He probably should have seen this coming, but the problem with deliberately not looking at things is that they have lots of chances to blindside you. In hopes of avoiding this conversation, Soos says, "I haven't noticed that." "Okay," Wendy says. "So. I'm going crazy, right?" "Dude, you're too smart to be crazy," Soos says, "but he totally touches things. He handed you money like five minutes ago."

East: What if Stan was lowkey-highkey haunting the shack?! THIS IS SUCH A GREAT IDEA. I really wish that there was more for this au or this idea

Deja Vu - interlude

Stan and Ford get stuck in a time loop on the day of the portal incident and are forced to work through some things.

East: Through the lense of a timeloop, watch the brothers have their struggles, and find that with infinite time on their hands there is nothing else for them to do but to eventually work things out (and maybe deal with how to get out of the loop). ITS GOOD SHIT

The Sacrifice of Stanford Pines - Jugare

Instead of sending Stan a postcard, Ford leaves Gravity Falls to find his brother. But to his shock, Stan is not nearly as willing to help as Ford thought. Everything goes south quickly.

East: I love this fic. The act of Ford going and finding Stan rather than having him send a letter gives these characters more time to interact before they arrive at the Shack, changing the course of fate. A top tier fic.

East: short but to the point. A fun thought experiment and I think does a good job portraying both Stanley and Ford.

East: This series in general is really good. I like how the selkie skin is used to unit and to tear apart. My one gripe is I wish we never found out whether the skin belonged to Mabel or Dipper, and it was left for the reader to decide (and to decide if that even matters)

East: A good fic, but more than that it's a really fun idea! I wish they had pushed the implications of this even more (especially with the bottomless pit episode)

It all started with the grim. Now it seems like every time he turns around, Ford finds yet another death omen hanging around his brother. Seriously, what exactly is going on with his brother that death constantly seems to follow his footsteps? A 5+1 fic of the death omens that adopted Stan and he adopted back.

East: It all comes together in the final chapter, trust me.

Okay so this is from (I think) last year, but I'm really struggling and burnt out right now, what with having to fight once again for my basic rights (gotta love the UK - “we’re a first world country guys, we have trillions of £££ worth of billionaires, so of course we'll strip away your ability to live with dignity if you don't meet our arbitrary ‘productive’ threshold”), so anyway I'm just gonna repost some of my old faves while I take some time to collect myself again. This is from an ATLA project I did, drawing the protags in Republic City at a New Year's Ball. It originally came with text slides delving into water tribe cultural wear and how I came up with this design, but I cannot for the life of me find where I put them or remember how I made them, so I'll include the text under the cut (should also note that there is just so much nuance missing from these, since it's impossible to condense thousands of years and miles worth of culture into a few Instagram slides):

A bit of background:

The Water Tribes' culture is based primarily on those of Arctic and Siberian peoples. The Northern Tribe has more influence from Siberian peoples (for example, the Yakut, the Buryat, and the Evenk), while the Southern Tribe has more influence from Arctic peoples (such as the Inuit, the Sireniki, and the Yupik). Since the Southern Tribe was founded by ancient immigrants from the Northern Tribe, this reflects the real world relationship between Arctic and Siberian peoples. However, the Water Tribes also draw from other Indigenous peoples, such as Native American, Aboriginal Australian, and Polynesian cultures. And, like all cultures in the ATLA world, the Water Tribes also have extensive Chinese influence.

Some examples include: the igloos used by the Southern Tribe, which resemble those used by the Inuit; the Water Tribes' reliance on hunting and fishing, similar to the Inuit; Water Tribe warriors wear face paint into battle, a practice associated with Native Americans, as well as African and Southeast Asian tribes; Water Tribe boats are based on Polynesian catamarans; Water Tribe boomerangs are based on the “returning boomerangs” used by Aboriginal Australian tribes.

Standard Water Tribe Clothing:

Water Tribe clothing typically resembles the clothing of Arctic peoples. For example, the large, pullover coats are drawn from Inuit anoraks (also called parkas, although they are strictly speaking not the same). Anoraks are typically made from reindeer or seal skin and lined with fur.

Water Tribe shoes are influenced by the mukluks worn by Arctic peoples. These shoes are also made from reindeer or seal skin and are often worn with an inner liner and protective overshoe.

‘Hair loopies’ are also based on an Inuit hairstyle. While braided hairstyles are found in cultures all over the world, ‘hair loopies’ are based on a uniquely Canadian Inuit hairstyle and are called qilliqti in Inuktitut.

Warm-Weather Clothing:

Katara's warm-weather clothes are inspired by the Chinese cheongsam (Cantonese: 長衫; literally 'long shirt/dress'). It is typically a long, form-fitting, one-piece garment with a standing (mandarin) collar, an asymmetrical, left-over-right closure (右衽; youren), two side slits, and Chinese frog closures (盤扣; pankou).

The cheongsam developed in the 1910s and 1920s following the overthrow of the Qing dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China (1911). It was chosen as a national dress in 1929.

Over the past century, the cheongsam has developed into several distinct styles: the Beijing style, which retains the original loose fit and is typically elaborately embroidered and adorned; the Shanghai style, which developed in the 1930s and 1940s with Western tailoring techniques to be more form-fitting with less elaborate embroidery; and the Jiangnan style, which tends to be the most elaborately adorned, with embroidery and hand painting.

My Design:

Cheongsam's are typically decorated with motifs of animals or plants and each has its own meaning in Chinese culture. I chose to draw floral designs, namely gardenias and plum blossoms:

Gardenias are associated with November, sturdiness and feminine beauty, and I think all of these link to Katara, even November as a winter month. Furthermore, they are a symbol of clarity, faith, hope and rejuvenation. As the most hopeful member of the gaang, I think they sum her up perfectly. Plum blossoms are also a symbol of winter, since they bloom in the cold, and they are a symbol of wisdom, feminine charm and logevity so I chose them because Katara outlives most of the gaang. But they are also a comment on how the war affected Katara, as she was forced to grow up and become an adult while she was still a child.

Water Tribe clothing typically comes in shades of blue and silver but I chose to replace the silver with gold. I did this to represent Katara's relationship with Aang and the multicultural family that they went on to have

reading update: january 2025

I'm a bit behind on getting this posted, so I'm gonna do it quick and dirty. this is not the most elaborate reading round-up I'm ever going to do, and that's okay!!! january has gotten off to a weird, uneven start in terms of reading, and that is what it is!

The Extinction of Irena Rey (Jennifer Croft, 2024) - this book is great for anyone who likes dark academia but wants to see what those students will be like when they’re adults who have to get by outside of college. in this case, they become translators for an enigmatic woman who makes them gather in a remote Polish forest and then disappears. pure vibes all the way down; truly things just happen in this book. the gimmick of the novel itself being a work by one of the characters, told from her perspective, and then translated by another character that the narrator despises, is soooo rich and interesting, and I deeply wish it had been used much more extensively.

Darknesses (Lachelle Seville, 2022) - is this book good? I couldn’t possibly say. it was very fun to read on vacation with like 12% of my brain operating. the best way I can possible explain it is that by the time the book is over it feels like Seville is running one of those old ask blogs where artists would have their blorbos and their OCs answer questions and hang out and stuff. do you know the kind I’m talking about? it’s like that, it’s dissociative identity disorder Dracula and the descendants of the human Dracula characters and Norse mythology werewolves and a vampire bunny and a dragon and Satan who’s a teenage girl with pink hair and they’re all hanging out in New York City. don’t think too hard about it. 

Become Your Own Matchmaker: 8 Easy Steps to Attracting Your Perfect Mate (Patti Stanger with Lisa Johnson Mandell, 2009) - I’m not proud of this and I can’t really justify it except that my housemates and I have gotten really into watching old episodes of Patti Stanger’s terrible TV show, Millionaire Matchmaker. the show is atrocious and so is the book but in my defense it’s extremely funny.

Queen Takes Rose (Katee Robert, 2020) - guys I can’t stand Katee Robert. I really can’t. I thought it was going to be fun but god this just sucked.

Adam & Evie's Matchmaking Tour (Nora Nguyen, 2024) - after that last one I really needed a good, normal romance novel to get me back on track, and this delivered! I don’t think it’s going to be one of my all-time faves, but the characters are lovably realistic losers and I was really rooting for them—especially Evie, who feels like a messy bitch I would love to hang out with. plus the setting, a romping tour across the sights of Vietnam, was so fun and I’m always willing to award points to a romance novel that supports telling your awful to fuck off right to hell!

Mystery Lights (Lena Valencia, 2024) - here’s the thing. every short story in this collection is a well written, coherent short story. thematically there are really clear throughlines; you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this if you like middle aged women who have complicated relationships with their daughters between the ages of 13 and 23. I really wanted to like this! and yet, I feel like this collection just isn’t going to stick with me very well. there are some cool concepts and ideas (there’s a creepy story involving a little girl who disappears into some underground caves and comes back Weird that actually spooked me pretty good) but overall I feel like it’s just not going to stick with me :/

Is Love the Answer? (Uta Isaki, 2021; trans. Sawa Matsueda Savage, 2023) - huge thanks to the person who sent me an ask to recommend this manga! it’s a very quick, sweet read about a university student coming into her aroace identity with the help of a circle of newfound friends supporting her along the way. I really liked the way it delves into the way anxiety can have you second-guessing and overthinking your sense of self even after embracing an identity. this was my Heartstopper (I say, without having ever read Heartstopper).

The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse (Louise Erdrich, 2001) - I picked this up at Erdrich’s bookstore, Birchbark Books & Native Arts, last summer while I was briefly in Minneapolis, on recommendation by an employee at the store. I was initially hesitant about the novel’s focus on spirituality and religion, given that it follows a Catholic priest working on an Ojibwe reservation throughout the 20th century, but man, this was an incredible introduction to Erdrich’s work. Father Damian Modeste is an incredible character and one of my favorite depictions I’ve ever seen of a woman living long-term in disguise as a man, and how the line between those identities blurred. there’s a scene I don’t think I’ll ever forget, in which Modeste is asked, essentially, “Are you a man or a woman?” and answers firmly “I’m a priest.” and all the while, despite the fact that he’s supposed to be an agent of colonization and the destruction of indigenous culture, more than anything he is changed by the Ojibwe people he works with. it’s a surprising, elegant book, and I was shaken to find myself crying at the end. 

A Magical Girl Retires (Park Seolyeon, 2022; trans. Anton Hur 2024) - this book is a short, rapid-fire read that’s a dry, funny take on the magical girl genre. our protagonist starts the book so mired in credit card debt that she’s considering jumping off a bridge when she’s summoned to be a magical girl, and things will only get weirder for her from there as Korea’s magical girl union recruits her to help them combat climate change. a fun read, easy to polish off in a single sitting at less than 200 pages.

salt slow (Julia Armfield, 2019) -now THIS was the short story collection I was waiting for! it reminded me so much of why I loved Armfield’s novel Our Wives Under the Sea. she has another new novel out this year and I’m really looking forward to reading that as well! she has an incredible way with love and melancholy.

Thinking about Restoration AU (again). What POV would you like to write/or are you just interested in? Well, besides Cersei :D Even for the time of the first book, she can't be called sane. Maybe Jamie? Like you said, in the first book he wasn't in the mood for redemption, but here he meets the ghost of the man he was loyal to and whom he feels he has failed (I tend to think that Rhaegar just didn't want to take a 16 year old boy to battle, so he gave him an important "assignment").

Or maybe Robert's POV during the meeting with the twins? We know that Ned is mentally praying at this time, while Robert may not remember Rhaegar's facial features and his reaction is: ho ho our noble Ned is just a man too, we're not so different.

Or Catelyn? I don't share the fandom's hatred of her, but it would be very interesting to see her thoughts, especially how she tries to recreate the image of a "rival" to Rhaegar: his looks, charming singing, soft demeanor.

Personally, I'm probably most interested in seeing Darmon and Daenerys' POV. With Darmon, it will be both painful and fun - painful because he finds himself in a world where his children aren't around him, dragons are extinct, and the Targaryens have fallen (the story of Rhaegar's death might cause a sudden painful flashback). But watching him terrorize first the people of the valley and then Volantis, who have no idea where the hell the dragon came from or what children this madman is talking about (they're already willing to give him their children just to get rid of him) would be fun.

And for Daenerys I'm just happy, she'll probably be a little scared of Darmon at first (he's a little crazy during their first meeting) but then she'll appreciate him: the fact that there's finally an older family member protecting her from Viserys, and his dragon, and the way he treats her gently (she'll 100% remind Daemon of Rhaegar, only a girl). Or Viserys? In terms of insanity it should be something close to Cersei in the last few books.

Would love to see your thoughts. By the way, have you decided whose POV will be next?

Hmm, it's less for me about POVs and more about certain story events, other than the aforementioned Cersei POV. Like, the Robert meeting the twins is an obvious one, but I don't think I'll write Robert's POV. For that, I'm leaning toward Ned's, especially because he'll get to see little!Jon/Willam staring absolute daggers at Robert, both as in the I HATE YOU sense and the DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH MY LITTLE BROTHER-DAD sense, but Ned will likely interpret it as "you killed our older brother! 😡" Whereas Rhaegar/Raymar is deer-in-headlights "if I don't move he won't see me" mode.

(Oh, or could THAT be our first Cersei POV? Ehh, I still think Ned, but I can absolutely see Cersei being huffy about Robert going to greet Ned's bastards after he meetings the trueborn ones, viewing it as him rubbing his adultery in her fave, and then she catches a glimpse of Rhaegar and goes why hello yes target acquired ned stark's bastards you say?

Goodness, I hadn't thought about Rhaegar becoming the symbol of the boys' mother to Cat, but he probably would, wouldn't he? Jon and Willam remind her enough of Ned, but she's staring at this dainty-looking child with the long braid, imagining the woman's silver-blond hair and beautiful eyes and quiet demeanor. Did she sing? Is that what drew Ned to her?

Okay, I may have to steal the "Volantis just starts flinging Valyrian-looking children at Daemon in a bid to appease him" bit for Daemon's reign of terror across Essos. 😂 They just round up every child that looks the least bit like him, and even throw in some dark-haired, grey-eyed ones like the other child he mentioned. Daemon is all "wtf am I supposed to do with these?" and they're all "feed them to your dragon if they aren't what you want, please just leave us alone."

I think Dany and Daemon's first meeting will definitely be a Dany POV, so I suppose that's one I'm looking forward to! I still haven't decided the exact timing there. Canonically per the book, her wedding to Drogo has already occurred by now, so either I shift the time so that Daemon can dramatically prevent it, or he rocks up on the Dothraki and starts burning until they give him his kin.

I have not yet decided which POV is next, though that's up after Knight of Stars pt2. (Assuming I don't get sucked into the "Rhaella gets summerhalled" AU I'm very tempted to write first. And we still need the wintery hot springs prompt fill! Lots to write this week.)

I'm so sorry for the extremely late response on this lovely but thank you so incredibly much! I'm really glad so many of you liked the headcanons! I've had a couple months to think up some more so there will be additional ones that I'll be posting soon :)

Okay first of all yes. I actually think about this all the time. I think she'd be fascinated not only by the fact that bloodbending is extremely powerful, but because like you said, it would reflect something inside Azula herself too. This twisted, morally grey, morbidly beautiful overlap of power and choice kind of merging together. Like, here's Katara, this moral beacon of goodness and purity and everything Azula isn't, who is also choosing to use this terrifying and invasive form of bending.

Azula already thinks of herself as an inherently evil person, calls herself a monster and projects fiercely because of it, because she doesn't want to be evil, but at the same time she thinks it's an ingrained, unchangeable truth. Seeing Katara bloodbend would make her realize that she's not actually an outlier among Zuko's "perfect" friends, because Katara has that darkness in her too. And if Katara can live with the "bad" parts, maybe Azula can too.

Also yes I definitely see the vision. It's canon that she can do calisthenics so she should be pretty muscular or at least quite toned, but I think the showrunners wanted to make her small to emphasize that she's still just a child fighting a war. Still, I've always thought she should have a physique similar to Korra's. Katara would definitely love it either way, whether she's presenting as more masculine or feminine (or somewhere in the middle). Azula in silk robes with her hair down? Yes. Azula with her hair cropped up, and in a sleeveless training shirt that shows off her arm muscles? Oh she's salivating

I have not had a chance to read Et Tu Brute but I've heard wonderful things about it and remember seeing a bunch of updates in the Azutara tag when the last chapter got posted haha. It’s dark when you wake up. The truck bed is cold and hard under your back, the thin blanket doing little to ward off the wind as it rushes through the trees around you. Panicked, you sit up, looking around for any sign of his dyed hair in the dark of the camp site.

Your panic subsides slightly when you notice a familiar figure sitting a few feet away, the soft glow of a fire from his lighter surrounding him.

“It’s late.” You say in lieu of a greeting, sitting down next to him. Lee doesn’t startle at your presence or words, simply shrugging in response and blowing out a puff of smoke.

You don’t say anything else, still tired despite the momentary panic you had. You let your gaze drift away from Lee and to the stars above you. Out here, away from the city, they glisten like water droplets in the sun. Though of course there is no sun, only stars and vast darkness.

“That’s the big dipper.” Lee’s voice cut through your thoughts and you look over at him in surprise. Despite having been travelling together for a few weeks now, he had barely spoken to you. Welcome back 'Jackson's in GOT7?' Anon! This ask will DEF help with my boredom. I'm not sure how far back is considered early on for them but I'm gonna try.

Right before their very first comeback, GOT7 released a couple of dance practices for their B-Side song 'I Like You' and they are filled with CHAOS! Everyone looks so incredibly young and they are laughing and playing throughout the practices and just having a good time. Also you can always hear their shoes squeaking on the floor and Youngjae singing over the track because his vocals are so powerful. This was in 2014 which was their debut year.

Stop Stop It Era. Most of GOT7 HATED this era because of the bad haircuts...BamBam and Jackson's haircuts were terrible NGL, but Jinyoung's emo boy bang, Youngjae's Blonde hair, and Yugyeom's pink hair really hit for me. Not to mention the styling with the 3 different sets of overalls gave 90s boy band which I loved! Also there is a point in the choreography that Jackson kept messing up and everyone clowned him for it. It really wasn't even that bad, he kept getting his leg placement mixed up. This was also in 2014.

If You Do Era was GOT7's first "dark bad boy" era. The styling for the members was very much punk rock and pop (lots of leather, skinny jeans, black, and printed t-shirts). It was a phenomenal era and the MV was fire and we were gifted some incredible footwork in the choreography. It was essentially them shedding their cute boy image and showing their manly sides instead. At least that's what they said lol. This was in 2015.

Umm Just Right Era was a Pretty Fun and cutesy era. It was most memorable for me because it was so vibrant and that was around the time BamBam's voice dropped and he had us all SHOOKETH! We couldn't believe it was the same kid. Also they really all seemed to enjoy that era and the message behind Just Right. This was also in 2015.

The Flight Log Trilogy was actually a fun time because we got 3 albums with some storyline and lore. There was a ton of imagery in the MVs and we really had a grand time breaking everything down. The title tracks were bops and we did get some good styling from the concepts. Departure and Turbulence released in 2016 and Arrival was 2017.

We also got this really cute video of them trying to sing Never Ever live while also trying to decorate a cake. They were WAY more interested in the cake decorating than the singing.

I have no idea when we started getting their little video interviews called Got2Day but I know it was old because Jinyoung was still being called Junior in some of them (OK the video is from 2016). But this one Jinyoung did with Mark was my fave. He was talking about how Mark was acting like such a gangster that day and he kept calling him an LA Gangster which is hilarious because Mark forreal used to get in hella fights when he was a trainee.

Okay this is starting to get super long so here are a few other styling eras I loved from GOT7.

Teenager/7 for 7 Era. 2017. One of their best eras and the album had NO SKIPS. I think this era was the era where they got creative control. They wrote and produced most if not all of the songs.

Aura and Not By the Moon/DYE Era. 2020. This was their most classically aesthetic era. Loved, loved the styling! Everyone looked like princes and I loved Jay B's long hair and BamBam's pixie cut.

Look/Eyes on You Era. 2018. 10/10. LOOK AT THEM! MY LOVES!

Adidas Lullaby Performance Video/Present: YOU Era. 2018. This particular performance video was just chef's kiss. Loved the way Adidas styled them and the whole black and white vibe was so clean. They also have an adidas performance video for Look.

Thursday/Call My Name Era. 2019. Thursday is like one of my TOP 10 GOT7 songs and this Studio Choom performance was the cutest ish ever. They all had on their boyfriend-iest outfits and they had so much fun this era.

OH WAIT Let me Include their HORRENDOUS teasers for their first comeback 'A'! Jinyoung was just recreating all of these a couple weeks ago when Python Promos began. They'd all like to forget it but they can't and I won't let them. This is from 2014.

About this: The after affects of SWAT performing a no knock raid on the reader's and John's home.

Sitting down in the car , not even bothering to buckle up and start to cry silently. You understand what your husband does, you know that this was life before you and provides for your family, hell you work for one of the businesses you just didn’t think would affect your kids life , have them forever traumatized because of something we did. 

“Love” ,John says tenderly. 

“Please, just drive” , You want to see your kids , see if they are okay. To apologize for of course all the issues that you caused them for this one night. 

“We should talk about th-”. You cut John off , “There is nothing to talk about , get me home to my kids”. He sighs and shakes his head , he is worried about you. Your skin has a sickly sheen over it , your hair looks greasy but like you keep messing with it and your fingernails look like you chewed them off. 

Once you arrive home , the children run up to you, they just seem really tired and just want to snuggle up to you and be under you. They ask if they can sleep with you and you say “of course”. John is holding the youngest baby , hugging him close. You thank your sister for watching your children and send her on her way. 

The kids fall asleep quickly, at least one body part is touching you and John. You can’t sleep so you just stare at John who is assessing you. 

“I was on my way home,when I got the alert”,John says.

“They pointed guns in our children's face” You whisper. 

He pressing his lips so tight they almost disappear under his mustache, “ I know sweetheart, I’m going to fix this”

“But how, they are going to remember this night forever, and I can’t fix that”. You turn you head away from him, letting the tears run down your face. You feel a lot of mom guilt for being a working mom already, you work 40 hours a week and with this on top of it you don’t know how you are going to survive this. You don’t think that John can make this better , he can’t go inside your head and scrub that portion of your brain no matter how much you want too. He grabs your hand. He growls , “ You did everything,right. You hear me?”. You nod head, you don’t really agree but you logically know you couldn’t have done anything different, but that doesn’t feel like you couldn’t have.   

“I just want to go to sleep now, please. We have to talk about this in the morning with the kids present”. You did not want to be the type of parents that sweep everything under the bed, especially with something as heavy as this.

I’m really proud of all the writing I did this year! So for the last ten days of 2024 I’m going to be reblogging my 10 favorite pieces that I wrote.

I think this is the longest single smut one-off I've ever written?? It got so out of hand??? It inspired a whole spin-off series I had 0 intention of writing???? And compared to other pieces it was so easy to write— a real joy.

The fic owes a lot to two other sex pollen fics I'd HIGHLY recommend—firstly, a Solas x Trevelyan one, which is mind-numbingly good and (I think??) can still only be found on the Kink Meme/LJ. It's so good I spent over an hour and $22 trying to find it in all those comments again just to rec it here, and it was worth every minute and penny. I was for sure heavily influenced by the absolute crash from erotic to devastating at the end. Not gonna put the author on blast since it was filled anonymously but if they are seeing this: this is one of MULTIPLE of your works I still think about years later and I hope you are thriving. And SECONDLY, oh my god, @bdafic's Solavellan sexpollen fic, Aphrodisia. YES IT'S UNFINISHED, I DON'T CARE, GO READ IT ANYWAY. I am sometimes literally just doing things around my house like, walking my dog, or washing my dishes, and the reveal in this fic hits me over the head AGAIN and I have a little chuckle at Solas' expense thinking of him hiding his embarrassed, red face in his hands… and then I just stare into space like, wow. wow. Incredible. 13/10. I won't spoil it for you, but it's so hot, and so funny. Multiple outloud belly laughs reading it. Incredible Dorian and Varric banter at the top. And @bdafic's Ellana is one of my fave quizzies. I never would have put all that work into Aostrolf Van Markham if I hadn't been inspired by the absolutely insane world building this fic spoils the reader with. START YOUR 2025 OUT RIGHT!
